Meet Chawntia Johnson, a seven-year registered nurse at Vanderbilt Spine Center in a current role of Patient Care Coordinator. She is the founder of the Jackie Louise Memorial Scholarship and Healthy & Holistic Nonprofit in Clarksville, TN. In 2021, she started her business Impulse Reaction CPR teaching individuals Basic Life Support First Aid AED and CPR in the Clarksville area.
This feature means so much to me as this young lady is amazing in every way. The story that she shares about her non-profit honoring the life and legacy of her grandmother are near and dear to my heart as her grandmother and my mother were very close. Now I may be partial because she is my cousin, but her talent, energy, drive and fortitude make her a force to be reckoned with. It is my honor to share her greatness with the world.
Being in the healthcare field can be very challenging at times, but Chawntia is thankful that she still finds joy in what she does. Her nonprofit organization started merely as a health fair that her grandmother inspired her to have. She helped me with colors and listened to my grand ideas to make the city healthier.
After her grandmother’s passing in 2014 Chawntia really wanted to make it happen and with the support of my family, friends and community, Healthy &Holistic was born. The scholarship was started with donations from the health fair and selling shirts to provide our first book scholarship in 2016.
Losing her grandmother has taught her to cherish her loved ones deeply and understand that life is not promised. That loss hits me at times unexpectedly which can shift my mood for the day but she is getting stronger each day. Chawntia is coming to understand that everyone doesn’t have the same vision and passion about things as I do.
She has also had to learn that not all ideas are meant to be implemented by her. It can be a great idea, but God may need someone else to take the lead. One of her biggest challenges now is knowing when to rest I am leaning the older she gets my body won’t let her do everything she once did!
Chawntia’s greatest accomplishments have been starting Jackie Louise Memorial Scholarship in memory of her grandmother which is open to graduating seniors in the Clarksville Montgomery County School System. As of 2023 the scholarship has awarded over $12,000 to graduating seniors.
Host of Tia Talks on Facebook live was created at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Chawntia developed this video series, which streamed live. The series featured community leaders in the health industry with the goal of educating the community while the world was at a halt. The content provided essential resources to my social media followers as she interviewed guest such as educators, nurse psychiatrists, personal trainers, and nutritionist.
As a communicator and motivator in 2020 I had the pleasure of having my first TedX talk which is called “The Power of Rejection” which was a dream of mine since 2010.
Chawntia is currently earning my Masters in Nursing Education at Western Governor’s University with the goal of graduating in March 2025. As the scholarship and nonprofit grows the plan is to have quarterly events for those in the community to equip them with tools to have a holistic life. They want to have workshops for all ages which is really exciting to start planning.
As Chawntia strives to live a purpose driven life she is hoping to have more public speaking and hosting engagements while also helping others achieve their goals and aspirations.
Chawntia says, I want to thank my family and friends for their constant support, as a person with many visions, it can be hard to have the support consistently and I thank God daily that I have such an awesome support group. Special thank you to my mommy who always reminds me who I am and that I am capable of doing any and everything as long as my intentions are pure, she listens to all 7,500 ideas.
